Aston Martin DBX prototype drive

► New DBX unveiled on 17 Nov 2019, on sale in April
► First impressions of Urus rival

In March this year, Aston Martin will start deliveries of the DBX, its first SUV. The £158,000 off-roader represents a new market, an all-new platform, and a new production facility too; the DBX will be produced at St Athan in Wales, not Gaydon.
No Aston has ever had to achieve more: not only accelerate 2245kg (more than Lamborghini Urus, less than Bentayga) from 0-62mph in around 4.5 seconds and top 180mph, but corner enthusiastically, grip securely, ride smoothly, encourage easy conversation at high autobahn speeds,

New Toyota Supra: four-cylinder not coming to UK

► New A90 Toyota Supra coupe
► Straight-six and four-cyl versions
► Priced from £52,695 in the UK

Toyota has revealed a new engine for the Supra range in European markets. In selected countries a new 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo will sit underneath the flagship 3.0-litre inline-six turbo, giving buyers a less powerful, but arguably nimbler choice. Production of Supras with the new engine will begin shortly, with sales expected to start in March 2020. However, CAR understands there are no plans for it to come ot the UK.
The new block uses a twin-scroll turbocharger coupled to an eight-speed, ZF 'box and isn't exactly feeble: it still puts out 251bhp and 195lb ft, with 0-62mph taking just 5.2 seconds.
Engineers have managed to achieve an equal weight balance between front and rear, and say a 100kg saving could mean the car is even better through the tricky stuff. There doesn't look to be any exterior differences though.

Porsche Cayenne GT spied: Urus slayer ahoy!

Last year we revealed exclusive pictures of a forthcoming, superheated Cayenne GT Coupe, and now we’ve got more pictures of Porsche’s performance SUV. But unlike last time, where we caught the car stationary, this time our spy photographers have snapped the Coupe in action. And because of the cold conditions, it’s even easier to pinpoint its unusual centre-mounted exhausts.

For more information on what could be the hottest Cayenne Coupe of them all, keep reading.

McLaren GT vs Ferrari Portofino vs Honda NSX triple comparison test (2020) review

If, in the '60s, you needed to drive far, fast and in style, you reached for your Ferrari Daytona, the definitive GT. But, now, the GT has many faces.
Pre-flight briefing: McLaren GT

Why is it here?
McLaren's first ever grand tourer, built on the same mid-engined foundations as any other McLaren. Can a convincingly luxury GT experience really be born of sports car ingredients?
Any clever stuff?
The familiar carbon tub evolves with an upper 'Touring' rear structure. Together with a slightly lower engine, it's key to the 420-litre rear load area. The 4.0-litre V8 gets new twin turbos, and there's Proactive damping from the 720S, which learns from previous scenarios. All-new nav with real-time traffic info too.
Which version is this?
Choose Standard, Pioneer or Luxe interior. Our £10k Luxe brings memory heated seats, power-adjusted steering column, softgrain aniline leather and SuperFabric luggage bay floor.

Porsche 718 GTS 4.0 ups the cylinder count to six

Praise be! Porsche’s 718 twins, in GTS format, now come with a 4.0-litre flat-six engine, with a Porsche spokesperson confirming they replace the four-cylinder GTS version in the process.

Is this Porsche doing a U-turn on its four-cylinder 718 engine? Probably not but, at the very least, it’s a welcome return for what made previous-generation Caymans and Boxsters so good. Regular and S 718 models will still use the flat-four.
Woohoo! The flat-six is back!

It was technically back with the Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder, but yes! For the new GTS 4.0, a 394bhp version of Porsche’s 4.0-litre flat six has been dropped in. That’s 20bhp less than the GT4 and Spyder, but 54bhp more than the now-defunct flat-four GTS this replaces.

BMW M8 Competition review: better, not best

How do you topple the high-flying Porsche 911? That’s a question car makers have been asking for a while now, as they look to overcome Stuttgart’s all-rounder flagship. As far as high-performance premium sports cars costing under £200,000 are concerned, the Porsche 911 is still the leader of the pack with the Aston Martin Vantage and the Mercedes AMG GT hot on its heels. It’s time to meet the M8: BMW’s answer to the 911.
'The two-door 6-series came quite close to challenging the Porsche 911,’ BMW´s R&D chief Klaus Fröhlich said when he introduced the new 8-series range. ‘With the 8-series coupé, we are about to close this gap. The M8 in particular has got what it takes to secure the sports car crown in the 600bhp segment.’ Well, Klaus Fröhlich was wrong.

What is it?

The 8-series is in essence a rebodied 5-series which has been kicked up-market to a new price point that comfortably eclipses its predecessor, the inconspicuous 6-series. When they defined their new flagship, the engineers could have gone down electric avenue, taken a bunch of weight out or even put the engine in a different position, but instead they settled for a pragmatic evolution of the status-quo.Is the latest arrow in M division’s quiver sharp enough to really hurt the competition? We’re not sure…
The new M8 is an exercise in overkill proposition: the aim of its creators was to develop a car that had to be as rigorously sporty as it was overtly luxurious. To accomplish this problematic mission, the power-brokers located in the Garching satellite think tank pulled out all the stops, just as they had done before with the sixth-generation M5.

New Seat Leon hatch reveals its rear.

Seat's next-generation Leon hatch is inbound, with the Spanish brand publishing another image of the new family car. It also confirmed the date and time of the reveal: Tuesday 28 January 2020 at 7pm UK time. We'll have the full story when the covers come off.

Toyota GR Yaris: official specs have arrived

Hurrah! Toyota has finally taken the covers off its GR Yaris at the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon. The hardcore homologation special follows on from the Supra as the second Gazoo Racing creation.

We’ve driven a GR Yaris prototype: read our impressions here
Holy moly! It’s real!

And rather exciting. Toyota says it’s the brand’s first all-wheel drive sports car since the Celica GT-Four, and has been mostly developed in Finland with Tommi Mäkinen Racing. Tommi demanded a huge list of things for the GR Yaris to have or do, and the engineers involved in the project are said to have completed around 90 per cent of the list.
GR Yaris: performance specs

Under the bonnet is an all-new 1.6-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged engine making a heady 257bhp and 265lb ft connected to all four wheels via a six-speed manual. That means the GR Yaris is capable of a 0-62mph sprint in just 5.5 seconds and a top speed limited to 143mph.

Supercar Blondie: The Female Supercar Driver Whose Instagram Account Is Rocking Dubai

As a young girl, Alex Hirschi drove a plain-Jane Mitsubishi for years. Now, at 30, she corrals a supercar stable that would make anyone jealous. A popular social influencer in Dubai, Hirschi is living what many car-lovers would consider the dream — she drives supercars for a living. “I’ve driven Ferrari 488 GTB, the 488 Spider, the Mclaren 570s and 540c, the Bentley GT3R, GT Speed and V8s, Mercedes AMG GTs, Lamborghini Huracan, and many others.”

Driving fast and expensive cars isn't all about publicly defeating physics; the attention-drawing butterfly doors invite gawkers on the street as well. But Hirschi is used to it.

“The best thing about driving supercars is the way it makes me feel. It’s so much fun that I often find myself laughing behind the wheel. I’ve always loved driving, even when I was driving my very first car — a Mitsubishi Lancer,” says the keen motor enthusiast, who grew up in Queensland, Australia.

Toyota GR86 To Replace 86 And Pack More Than 255 Horsepower?

Perceived quality will be improved with a better fit and finish.

Having been around since early 2012, the Toyota 86 is one of the oldest sports cars on the market and some would say it’s in dire need of a replacement. Although we have yet to see spy shots of the second generation, we at least know straight from the horse’s mouth that a new car is being developed and it will once again have a sister model in the Subaru BRZ. Now, a new report published by Autocar attempts to shed some light on the dynamic duo, which is expected to switch from a Subaru platform to Toyota’s TNGA.

Transitioning to the new architecture will be done to provide the 86 and BRZ with an improved rear-wheel-drive behavior as the cars will allegedly go through “substantial changes” compared to the current models. But while Toyota will provide the platform, it is believed Subaru will be in charge of providing motivation by installing a flat-four boxer engine, presumably a turbocharged 2.4-liter derived from the Ascent.

The concept car allegedly gets its name from the targeted top speed: 500 km/h.

Bugatti was the first to enter the 300-mph club with the Chiron Super Sport 300+ revealed last September. Although the production car is limited to 273 mph (440 km/h), Top Gear reports a customer can ask Bugatti to remove the limiter. Not only that, but an owner can even head to the Volkswagen Group’s Ehra-Lessien and try to replicate Andy Wallace’s 304.77-mph run at the very same test track.

Along with Hennessey’s Venom F5 and SSC North America’s Tuatara, Koenigsegg also wants to break the 300-mph barrier with its Jesko. When the Agera RS replacement was revealed nearly a year ago at the Geneva Motor Show, the Swedish hypercar marque briefly mentioned a Jesko 300 version able to hit 300 mph (482.8 km/h).
